Deep Space Nein: Infinite Space

What’s the difference between unreleased Star Wars and Star Trek games? I’ll tell you. With Star Wars games there’s a very good chance you’ll be disappointed when it eventually arrives. With Star Trek you can never be sure that game will ever come out at all.

The DS9-themed Infinite Space is the latest curtailed effort to join the corporeal ranks of Star Trek games that never will be, a roster that includes The Secret of Vulcan Fury, First Contact and Borg Assimilator. Infinite Space has been abandoned, not because it made no sense, but because its German publisher Gameforge failed to garner enough interest from commercial partners. A translated press release read:

“…We have decided with a heavy heart to finally abandon the project Star Trek: Infinite Space. The discontinuation is very regrettable. Unfortunately it happens from time to time that a good concept for a game cannot be implemented as originally planned.”

Initially due last summer, Infinite Space had been in doubt ever since 100 employees were issued with red shirts and beamed down to the planet Redundancy VI. Now it seems the captain has entered the destruct sequence and the game will be left to burn up in the atmosphere.
